To wrap up Birthday Eve, I link to this list of pickup line first drafts from McSweeney's, folks who can have a tendency to get on my nerves at times, but do not do so over the course of this list. Dave "Sucks" Eggers remains hated, however.

it is funny, but i think if you are going to rag on eggers, you might want to clarify that heartbreaking work sucks, maybe not the man who wrote it. how bad can he be? have you done any volunteer work, say, ever?
Well, I have done a little volunteer work, whatever that's worth, though usually I just send money to folks... and no, I really have no idea whether Dave Eggers sucks as a person or not, I'm sure he's a fine fellow. I've just had a distaste for most of his writing from back in the days of Might magazine and have long used that nickname for him in my head because I've always found suck eggs to be a funny put-down and it works so well with his surname. I hope this has cleared things up for you.
