Holy crap. After publishing the previous post I stopped by my Sitemeter to see how many people had visited so far today. 276 visits, not too bad, I thought... and then I realized that the 276 was "visits in the last hour", the total so far today is 3,580 visits. Given that the previous all-time high for an entire day was around 550 visits, something would appear to be up. Developing...

Wow! I've been averaging around 300 and thought I was doing well.
What do you think has been the biggest factor in drawing such numbers to your blog? Share your wisdom with the rest of us.
While I don't think I'll be adding ads, I do like the idea of something that flashes back and forth between two colors and wiggles. As far as the big draw, I've got a post up this morning explaining what seems to be happening... not so much wisdom as an unforseen fluke. You could recreate the effect, I think, but it would be something of a crapshoot, and I don't think it's resulting in very many people actually stopping awhile and reading the site anyhow. What I'm assuming has occurred: I hotlinked to that photo last May and now the site which originally had it up has removed the link to it but has not removed the actual photo from wherever it's hosted. So now I am the only site which links to it and Google thinks I am "the original context" for it. Most of the time when you hotlink to a photo someone else has hosted, they detect it and redirect you to a message saying something like "Whoever sent you here IS A BANDWIDTH THIEF!", which I did not realize when first starting out but once I did I stopped with the hotlinking.
