IAAFOTS Advent Calendar, Day 6. The joy and wonder which alight in this young boy's eyes when he spies jolly old John Ashcroft nestled in these festively flammable boughs is really what it's all about... O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, wie treu sind deine Blätter! Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit Gibt Trost und Kraft zu jeder Zeit.

I am compelled to correct some spelling errors here. Occurence (in an earlier post). Gißt (can also be written "gisst").
I stand corrected. It is 'gibt'. Who ever heard of such a word?
well, the only person I can say with any certainty that did is Ernst Anschütz, who wrote 'O Tannenbaum' in 1824... and, I guess, anyone who has sung the popular yuletide song in the original German - instead of the 'O Christmas Tree' English translation - since then.... and after a quick check here I can also report that the Babelfish translation website does: appears to mean 'gives'. thanx 4 tha spellcheckin, tho.
