IAAFOTS Heroes of The Games: If you were watching as the U.S. men's gymnastics team was stumbling through their opening day of competition yesterday, you caught a glimpse of our first hero of this 28th Olympiad when the NBC cameras took a break from the pandemonium on the floor for a look into the sparsely populated stands. Sitting there with a resigned look of disgust was alternate team member Raj Bhavsar, and even though they didn't have a mike on him, with a little lip-reading you could easily make out/make up what he had to be saying to his neighbor: "Blaine? His name is Blaine? That's a major appliance, that's not a name!" For one brief moment the Greek drama was transformed into a John Hughes drama, and for that Raj receives our gold medal. SALUTE!

I caught that moment in the stands. Raj looked extremely bitter and like he might have been planning a Kerrigan-style knee whomping for Blaine. He better watch his back! -ab

"I feel I could have made it a better team. I'll always feel like that because I'm supposed to. Mathematically and aesthetically and however you want to look at it, I really felt like I could have given this team an extra edge." You go out there and do everything you need to do to make it to Athens and then it just gets handed to some fool named Blaine who doesn't isn't even able to complete all of the events at the trials, and then on top of that he screws up what by all rights deserves to be yours? The willpower Raj shows by somehow not going Gillooly on the usurper is an inspiration to us all.
